In November 2020, the visionary client approached Glitzcamp with a dream - to create a domed structure that would serve as a double room, complete with a bedroom featuring double beds, a kitchen or water bar, and an extended outdoor wooden platform for a terrace. Norway's unforgiving climate added to the challenge, with specific requirements for cold insulation, heating, and snow load. This initial set of accommodation spheres was just the beginning, with plans to expand to nine sets in the future.
Objectives
The primary goal of this project was to create an outdoor hotel experience that would seamlessly blend with the natural beauty of the surroundings. The objective was clear - to offer guests a truly immersive and luxurious retreat that would leave them with unforgettable memories.
Implementation
The project took shape through several key steps:
- Client Engagement: In late 2020, the client brought their indoor and outdoor design ideas to the table, drawing inspiration from other successful cases. The choice was made to go with a sphere size of 7 meters in diameter.
- Decision to Buy: Early in 2021, the client made the decision to purchase the Shelter Dome, finalizing shipping arrangements and contractual details.
- Design Refinement: Collaboration between the client and Glitzcamp continued through CAD drawings, allowing for adjustments to meet specific project requirements. Notably, the repositioning of the stove jack ensured that the dome would function seamlessly.
- Production and Construction: Following design confirmation, production, shipping, and on-site construction were executed with precision, ensuring the successful realization of the project.
Challenges
The challenging local climate, characterized by rain, wind, and cold winters, posed several hurdles. However, the Shelter Dome proved to be the ideal choice for overcoming these challenges:
