Project Background
This project began at the end of 2019 when the client contacted Shelter Dome through official channels, expressing their desire to create an indoor spherical event space of approximately 450 square meters. They intended to use it for hotel celebrations, banquets, and catering purposes.
However, the specific dimensions and design requirements were not yet clear at the beginning, and further communication was needed to determine the details of the solution. To ensure that the design scheme not only meets the client's functional requirements but also complies with local construction specifications and environmental conditions, the project team conducted multiple rounds of in-depth communication and technical discussions with the client.
During the communication process, the team focused on discussing structural dimensions, design requirements, and key factors that could affect the safety and comfort of the project, such as local wind and snow load requirements, climate and terrain conditions, etc.
Simultaneously, we prepared necessary material testing reports and technical documents in accordance with Romanian policies and regulations, providing technical support for subsequent design and construction phases.
Through these stages of technical exchange and design confirmation, the client and the technical team ultimately reached a mutually agreed-upon design direction, laying a solid foundation for the successful progress of the white dome project.
Why Choose White Dome Tents for Events?
Actually, during the initial communication of the project, the client was concerned about whether this spatial format was truly suitable for the event itself. The types of events are diverse, and each has specific requirements regarding spatial openness, on-site atmosphere, and overall presentation. Naturally, this directly influenced the choice of the final structural form.
It was against this backdrop of requirements that the white dome was included in the solution evaluation. Next, we will explain why dome structures are suitable for event setup from several dimensions, including space, atmosphere, aesthetics, and function.
High Space Utilization
The dome employs a symmetrical hemispherical structure with no internal poles or partitions, creating a completely open interior space. This allows for a variety of layout configurations.
Such a dome's unobstructed design enables efficient arrangement of banquet seating, exhibition booths, or interactive installations to suit specific event needs. Most notably, its vertical space can be used for lighting, stage construction, or suspended displays. This integrated spatial structure not only enhances layout flexibility but also ensures the coordinated and efficient use of both floor and ceiling space.
Elevated Ambience
The white dome has a round shape. Its clean white cover makes it a really eye-catching centerpiece for events. When you add lights and decorations to its natural, art-like shape, it creates a great atmosphere full of style and art.
Aesthetics and Brand Value
The big white dome structure's powerful aesthetic expression serves as a vehicle for brand communication. Its distinctive geometric form offers high visual recognition and supports diverse custom designs. This means it can blend well with hotel branding, event themes, or market displays, boosting the overall brand image.
Functional Versatility
The open interior space of white dome structures accommodates diverse event functionalities, including banquet areas, stage zones, registration sections, and exhibition spaces. This integrated space design helps on-site work proceed more smoothly, thereby improving operational efficiency. Additionally, modular and prefabricated component systems enable rapid assembly and disassembly, significantly enhancing event preparation efficiency.
Value Creation of Tented Events for Hotels
Extending event spaces from traditional indoor areas to outdoor areas where tents can be erected provides greater flexibility for hotel operations. Using event tents like the white dome, hotels can quickly expand their usable space without altering the existing building structure, offering more options for events of varying sizes and types. This approach effectively alleviates the pressure on banquet hall resources during peak seasons or periods of high demand, increasing overall capacity.
The white dome building also created new revenue streams for the hotel. Outdoor weddings, themed banquets, and brand launch events typically have higher potential for premium pricing. Hotels can generate revenue through various means, including venue rental, catering services, and event planning support. The introduction of different themed events also helps diversify the hotel's product line and enhance its appeal to high-end event clients and corporate customers.
It's also worth mentioning that the flexibility of the tent space allows the hotel to manage the site more efficiently. Compared to fixed banquet halls, temporarily erected event spaces can be adjusted according to seasons, event cycles, and customer needs, reducing resource waste caused by long-term idleness. This adaptability helps improve venue utilization and optimize overall operational efficiency.
In addition, the visually recognizable white geodesic dome tent event setting also subtly enhances the hotel's marketing and communication effectiveness. By leveraging event photos, brand campaigns, and social media exposure, hotels can more easily create memorable venue images, which can help with subsequent marketing and customer referrals.
Construction Challenges and Problem Solving
In the actual implementation of hotel white dome tents, the construction team always faces challenges arising from varying environmental conditions and usage requirements. Taking this project as an example, targeted optimizations were made during the design phase to address issues such as climate adaptation and construction organization.
Ventilation Solutions for Hot and Humid Climates
Located in Buzău, the project needs to respond to the region’s continental climate, where summers can be hot and occasionally humid, especially during peak seasonal events. Under such conditions, a dome structure accommodating large crowds and operating equipment can easily become stuffy, affecting overall comfort.
To address this, multiple ventilation openings were integrated during the design phase. Combined with the top exhaust structure, these openings form a natural convection pathway that promotes the upward discharge of warm air and the intake of cooler air from lower sections. In addition, mechanical ventilation equipment can be configured according to the scale and intensity of each event, ensuring continuous air circulation and maintaining a stable indoor environment throughout use.
Winter Low-Temperature Usability Assurance
In Buzău, winters are typically cold, with periodic temperature drops that require careful environmental control for temporary event structures. During winter events, maintaining stable indoor conditions becomes essential for both guest comfort and equipment operation.
To address this, the dome is equipped with dedicated thermal insulation systems. The canopy can incorporate an aluminum-foil composite insulation layer made of waterproof canvas combined with an aluminum-foil foam core. This structure enhances thermal reflection and reduces heat transfer.
Alternatively, a needle-punched insulation cotton system can be used. It consists of canvas or curtain fabric, insulation cotton, and Oxford fabric, providing both heat retention and improved acoustic performance. Interior lining colors such as yellow or gray can be selected to create a softer visual atmosphere.
The insulation is typically installed in segmented panels. Each panel is fixed to the structural frame with integrated tie cords and grommets. Adjacent panels are sealed with Velcro to minimize gaps. At structural joints and inclined beam connections, butyl sealing tape is applied to reinforce airtightness and waterproofing. For larger-scale installations, a continuous insulation layer with a perimeter ground skirt can be added to seal the lower edge of the dome.
Site Constraints and Construction Coordination
The hotel's surrounding area presented challenges, including limited space and complex ground conditions. To address these, the project team conducted on-site surveys prior to construction. They planned how to transport components and the order of hoisting in advance. They also treated the ground to make the structure stable. Through efficient construction organization and on-site coordination, the overall setup period was shortened, minimizing disruption to the hotel's daily operations.
Summary
This project case demonstrates that the white dome is an outdoor event space solution that can be integrated into a hotel's overall operational system. From initial planning and structural selection to on-site implementation, the dome tent has demonstrated a high degree of adaptability in terms of spatial flexibility, event presentation, and actual operation. It provides hotels with more possibilities in terms of event hosting capabilities, venue expansion methods, and scene innovation.
If you want to expand your hotel's outdoor activity spaces, diversify the types of activities, or improve the efficiency of space utilization, introducing dome-like event structures is a direction worth considering.
